9 Tips To Make Asian Hair Thicker

Asians often have very thin and flat hair. Most people want to get thicker hair, but it’s not always possible because of genetics. However, some things can be done to improve the quality of your hair. After trying lots of different products, there aren’t many that actually work.

Thicker hair isn’t something that you can just get. It mostly depends on genetics. So you might be wondering if there’s no way to actually get thicker hair, it really depends on your hair type and what kind of products it needs.

I know from my own experience that my hair was always very thin, but once I got older and ate better foods while also taking care of my hair. It eventually got thicker, and I really wish someone had told me that sooner. Here are 9 tips to make Asian hair thicker.

Table of Contents

1. Nutrition

Nutrition is something that is one of the most important things to get healthier hair. It’s all about eating healthy foods and less junk food. That doesn’t mean that you can’t eat junk food anymore, but just eat it less often.

Foods that have high levels of Biotin like eggs, almonds, and sweet potatoes are great for the hair. Other foods like a juicy steak with lots of protein will also help the hair follicles grow.

You must stick to a strict diet and keep it consistent. Consistency is key to a lot of things. It might sound really basic, but that’s the truth. A lot of people aren’t consistent, and that’s the reason why their hair isn’t improving. Especially if you have Asian hair and want to make it thicker.

It’s very hard to just do that in 1 week so it will take time and you have to take it very seriously.

2. Supplements

When you’re using supplements, you have to use them moderately. There are a handful of supplements that actually worked for me and improved my hair growth.

The one that I had the most success with is the Collagen Peptides Powder from Amazon. I took it every morning and mixed it with a cup of coffee. I have tried other supplements, but those I found really difficult to digest. With this one, it was surprisingly easy.

What you have to keep in mind that it took pretty long before I saw any hair improvements. It took almost 3 months before I actually saw results, and that’s when I started to realize that this was the holy grail product for me.

Alongside the peptides powder that I took every morning, I also took the Biotin with organic virgin coconut oil, which you can find here on Amazon. The first thing that I noticed was that my nails started growing like crazy while my hair stayed the same.

Only after a couple of weeks, I saw some slight improvement. However, I know that it doesn’t work for some people, and it’s no guarantee. I do think that you should try it at least once, so you know for sure and use it for 3 months before throwing it out.

It might take very long before seeing actual results, but the key here is being consistent with these products.

3. Shampoo Less Frequently

If you shampoo too often, it will be very harsh on the scalp. The shampoo will wash out the natural oils from the scalp, which could possibly lead to dryness or hair thinning.

If you want to get thicker Asian hair, it’s extremely important to take good care of the scalp. The shampoo that I personally use is the BIOLAGE Volumebloom Shampoo from Amazon.

What I really like about this shampoo is that it’s very lightweight and isn’t harsh like some others. The scent very pleasant and stays in for a very long time. You can smell it throughout the whole day.

Back in the days when I had very dry and thin hair, I’ve used lots of different shampoos. After all, this was the one that worked really well for me. Still, to this day, I use it.

It’s definitely one of the better shampoos out there that actually work for Asian hair. I recommend this product to all my family and friends because I know it works. It’s not some kind of random product that I tell them to use.

Another plus about this shampoo is that it makes your hair very soft and works extremely well with damaged hair.

4. Dry Shampoo

On days that you aren’t going to wash your hair. The best thing to do is to use dry shampoo. Dry shampoo won’t necessarily make your hair thicker, but it will improve the quality of your hair over time.

The reason is that you don’t have to wash your hair that often when you use dry shampoo. Dry shampoo works great for all hair types, and I know that some Asians wash their hair every day.

I don’t recommend at all to wash your hair every day. Like I said before, washing it everyday washes out the natural oil, which could lead to hair thinning.

The dry shampoo that I use is the Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo Light Tones from Amazon. You can find it here if you’re interested in the product. I use dry shampoo every time I’m not going to wash my hair.

The scent is amazing, and it only takes 1 or 2 minutes at max to fix up your hair. I highly recommend it to everyone that wants to improve their hair.

5. Conditioner

Hair Conditioners are a great way to improve the quality of the hair and eventually to get thicker Asian hair. Conditioners are very popular and used by lots of people worldwide.

The conditioner that I use is the BIOLAGE Volumebloom Conditioner from Amazon. You can check it out here. This conditioner works great for Asian hair, especially if you have very flat and fine hair like me.

After using it for a couple of weeks, my hair feels very soft and smells pleasant. I really like this conditioner and use it every time I wash my hair.

6. Hair Treatments

Hair treatments should be used 1x a week for the best results. It works great for thickening the hair while also maintaining a shine. The Shiseido Fino Premium Touch Hair from Amazon is my favorite.

The hair mask is formulated with PCA to strengthen the hair. The bottle will last you at least 2 to 3 months when used 3x a week. This hair mask is very famous in Japan but also amongst lots of Asian people I know.

You should use it after rinsing the conditioner and then apply the hair treatment to the ends of your hair. Massage it thoroughly and rinse it with lukewarm water for the best results.

7. Hair Oils

The 5 Best Korean Scalp Scalers

Hair oils can be a great method to thicken the hair. It hasn’t personally worked for me, but I know it did for others. One of my friends started using this every day, and she said that her hair improved significantly.

It’s definitely one of those products that maybe work for some people but won’t for others. That’s completely fine since everyone has a different hair type and other specific needs.

I do advise you to try some different hair oils to make sure it doesn’t work because if it does work. That’s a great benefit to know and maybe even thicken the Asian hair. You never know until you try it yourself.

8. Curl Your Hair To Add Volume

If you have very thin and flat hair. Curling your hair is one of the best ways to make your hair look thicker. Especially if you have Asian hair curling your hair is an excellent option.

By curling your hair, it will get a lot of volume while also making it look thicker. It does not make your hair actually thicker, but it does look like it.

It’s not harmful to the hair, and it’s a great benefit of getting the look. A lot of people use this tip and works great for them. You don’t have to change your diet or take extra supplements.

9. Highlights

When you’re using highlights, it’s also just a way of looking to get thicker-looking hair. It does not make your hair actually get thicker, but it will look that way. What I really like about using highlights is that it’s very inexpensive and looks great on everyone.

Asian hair is hard to deal with most of the time, but with highlights, it gets extremely easy. There are a lot of different brands out there, so you should find the one that fits your hair color the most.

I personally just use black highlights from Amazon. It works great for me, and also while my hair is pretty thick from itself. I still use highlights from time to time.
