Why You Should Use A Different Shampoo For Curly Asian Hair

If you have curly hair, it’s really important to keep the curls in shape, and by doing that, your curls will stay longer healthy. Most people don’t do this and just normal shampoos, but from my own experience, I can definitely tell you that using a curly shampoo actually helps.

Especially if you’re Asian and have curly hair, you want to maintain it for as long as possible. It doesn’t matter if it’s natural or a perm, what you don’t want to happen is going back to the hairdresser every week to fix it up. That’s too expensive for most people, and that’s why using a shampoo for Asian hair is the solution.

Best Overall – Tresemme Flawless Curls

The Tresemme Flawless Curls is one of the better shampoos for curly Asian hair. It works great for wavy or curly hair, and it moisturizes very well. What I really like about this shampoo is that it does the job extremely well. The shampoo comes with a conditioner that has vitamin B1, which is really great for the hair.

This shampoo leaves the hair very natural and gives the curls an extra boost to make it look better. Even if you have curly hair already, this will help it define it even more. It doesn’t matter what your hair type is, this shampoo works excellent.

Another plus about this shampoo is that it cleanses the scalp really well. It doesn’t leave any residue and smells great. It’s definitely one of the best shampoos out here for Asian hair.

If you’re considering buying a shampoo for curly Asian hair, this is for sure the one to go for. It’s great for everyday use and leaves your hair with a great shine. I don’t see any downsides of using this shampoo. That’s why I recommend it to everyone with curly hair.

Best For Thick Hair – Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo

The Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo is the shampoo you want if you have thick and curly hair. Paul Mitchell brand is extremely popular in the USA, and lots of people really love this shampoo.

This shampoo can be used for all hair types. Therefore, I also have included it within this list. What I really like about this shampoo is that the quality is just amazing. It’s used by a lot of professional hairdressers and has a very light scent.

At first, when I started using this, I was a bit hesitant. I didn’t know what to expect, and after trying lots of different shampoos, I didn’t want to spend any more money.

However, after trying this, I actually really liked this shampoo. It worked great for my curly Asian hair, and it actually improved my hair. I did take around 2 to 3 weeks before seeing a big improvement, but eventually, it improved my hair, and that’s what’s important.

These days I switched to another shampoo since I straightened my hair, and now I’m trying all sorts of different shampoos.  If you’re thinking about buying a shampoo for thick curly Asian hair, this is the one you should go for, no doubt.

Best For Thin Hair – Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curling Shampoo

The Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curling Shampoo is great if you have thin curly hair. It’s sulfate-free and feels very pleasant on the scalp. What I really like about this shampoo is that it has a rich, creamy lather that feels luxurious.

This shampoo works great for thin hair and split ends. When you use this on thin curly hair, the curls will stay extremely healthy. It doesn’t make them worse like some other shampoos.

Another plus is the shea butter inside the shampoo; it really makes your hair a lot softer and also gives a great shine.

My friend has very thin hair, and she decided to get a curly perm. After that, she struggled a lot with finding the right hair products that fit her hair type. Once I recommended this shampoo to her, she decided to try it.

Only after 2 weeks her hair improved significantly and was very happy with the results. Still, to this day, she uses the shampoo every week. What I also noticed with this shampoo is that it works great with frizzy hair.

Best For Natural Hair – Sexyhair Curly Curl Enhancing Shampoo

The SEXYHAIR Curly Curl Enhancing Shampoo works great if you have naturally curly Asian hair. This shampoo is great because it’s very gentle on the scalp, especially if you have a sensitive scalp. This works really well.

What I really like about this shampoo is that it’s not a normal shampoo like most of them out there. This shampoo actually makes natural curly Asian hair look better. It gives a great shine to the hair while also moisturizing it.

I used this shampoo a couple years ago when I still had my curly perm. The shampoo improved my hair a lot, and I really liked it. It doesn’t feel too heavy on the scalp but rather lightweight.

A great perk of using this shampoo is that you don’t have to use any conditioner after. The moisturized hair you get from this shampoo is often enough. You don’t have to spend more money on a conditioner if you don’t want to.

What I do recommend is to a hair mask 1x a week to get more benefits. Generally speaking, a hair mask is one of the best hair care products for hair out there.

Best For Dry Hair – Garnier Hair Care Fructis Curl Nourish Shampoo

The Garnier Hair Care Fructis Curl Nourish Shampoo is the shampoo you’ve been looking for if you have extremely dry hair. This shampoo works very well as a moisturizer, which stays throughout the whole day.

You don’t need to worry about your hair getting dry when going outside. That’s what I really like about this shampoo. There aren’t many shampoos out there like this.

This works for Asian curly hair and dry hair. What I noticed is that a lot of Asians have been dealing with dry hair and don’t know how to style it. With this shampoo, your hair won’t be as dry but rather soft.

What you have to keep in mind when using this shampoo is to use a conditioner just in case. The conditioner works great to give an extra layer of protection.

It’s advised to use a conditioner from the same brand to get the best results. However, this is not a necessity. If you have a conditioner that works great for your hair. You don’t have to buy another conditioner to use.

Best For Frizzy Hair – Garnier Hair Care Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo

The Garnier Hair Care Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo works great if you have frizzy hair. What I really like about this shampoo is that its paraben-free and is formulated with active fruit proteins. These ingredients strengthen the hair to a level that you don’t think about buying other hair products.

Another plus is that this shampoo for curly Asian hair is very affordable. Everyone can afford this, and you only need a tiny amount of it to make it work.

Even if you have damaged hair, this shampoo can treat that. What I did notice from this shampoo is that I personally don’t like the scent of it.

This is just a personal preference, but if you don’t care about that. This shampoo is a great option for your frizzy hair. Everyone in your family can use this shampoo, but it works the best for Asian curly hair.

Best For Volume – Royal Locks Clean Curls Shampoo

The Royal Locks Clean Curls Shampoo is great for Asians that have extremely flat hair. This shampoo gives a lot of volume to the hair while also maintaining the curls. You’re getting a bang for your buck when buying this shampoo.

What I really like about this shampoo is that it really keeps your hair clean, and there’s no need to wash it every day. The curls will get a huge volume boost, and that’s what you want when using this shampoo.

My cabinet at home is full of shampoos and other hair products. I’ve used this shampoo for 3 weeks and really liked it. The reason why I stopped using this is that I straightened my hair and didn’t need it anymore.

However, when I was using this shampoo, my hair looked excellent. I highly recommend this shampoo for everyone that wants some extra volume in curly Asian hair.

Things To Consider Before Buying

Hair Type

When buying bottle shampoo, it’s important to know what kind of hair type you have to achieve the best results. In the past, I bought a shampoo that didn’t fit my hair type, and after using it for 3 weeks, I saw there’ wasn’t any improvement.

So buy a shampoo that actually fits your hair type. If you don’t know, just ask a hair specialist, and they will tell you exactly what kind of products you need to improve your Asian hair.

Price

The price of shampoo is extremely important. You don’t want to be spending hundreds of dollars on products that you don’t even use. So when you’re buying shampoo, look at the price and think about it. Are you going to use the shampoo for a long period or just once?

If you’re going to use it more than once, it’s definitely an investment. Even if you have to stay within a budget, the most important hair care products are the shampoo. Without cleansing the scalp, clean the conditioner and hair mask don’t add any value.

Conditioner

I always recommend using a conditioner after shampoo. Using a conditioner makes your hair get an extra layer of protection just in case anything happens. Let’s say you forget to use a heat protectant and are going to blowdry too hot.

When blowdrying, you don’t have to worry about your hair getting dried out. This is very important to keep the Asian curly hair healthy and also normal hair.

Hair Masks

Hair masks are optional, but I do recommend this because it actually improves the quality of the hair. Hair masks are highly praised in the Asian community, and that’s because they actually work.

A hair mask really improves the quality of your hair and can treat dry or damaged hair. It’s not like people sell useless products.

Quality

When buying shampoo, you want to look at the quality and the ingredients. A long time ago, I bought a shampoo that had lots of harsh chemicals inside, and it actually damaged my hair.

After that incident, I always check the ingredients within the shampoo to make sure there aren’t any harsh chemicals that could damage my Asian curly hair.

Conclusion

After all, it’s up to you what kind of shampoo you buy. I’ve tried lots of different shampoos myself and made this list to help you find the one that fits your hair type.

Try some of these shampoos yourself and see what great results you get. Especially if you’re Asian and have curly hair, it’s harder to find a shampoo that really works.
